About this property

Welcome to IKAL Tulum Hotel

Set along the beachfront in Zona Hotelera Tulum, IKAL Tulum Hotel offers a chic retreat featuring thatched cabins, some equipped with private pools. The property combines a laid-back jungle atmosphere with close proximity to the Caribbean Sea, providing guests with a serene and natural environment. Its location is ideal for exploring nearby attractions such as the Mayan ruins at the Archaeological Zone of Tulum, a 14-minute walk away, as well as popular snorkeling spots like Gran Cenote and Cenote Calavera within a short drive.

A standout facility on site is Maia Restaurant, which serves fresh seafood with a beachfront setting, although some guests have noted the pricing tends to be on the higher side compared to other local options. Additional amenities include parking and access to cultural sites like the nearby Garchen Tara Stupa. The hotel welcomes a diverse clientele, including being LGBTQ+ friendly, and offers a range of wellness activities such as yoga and mezcal tastings, making it suitable for travelers seeking both relaxation and cultural experiences.

Guest reviews frequently mention the attentive and friendly staff, with particular praise for personalized service and thoughtful touches such as complimentary mosquito spray and daily yoga sessions. The natural surroundings invite visitors to enjoy the wildlife and peaceful ambiance, although potential guests should be prepared for mosquitoes and the rustic nature of an eco-friendly setting. Some feedback highlights room variations and accessibility challenges, such as uneven entry steps, which may be relevant for those with limited mobility.

With its balance of natural beauty and upscale comfort, IKAL Tulum Hotel appeals to couples, families, and wellness travelers looking for a calm beachside base near Tulum’s attractions. While expenses in the restaurant and park entry fees add to the overall cost, the combination of location, facilities, and service creates a thoughtful option for visitors seeking an immersive experience on the Riviera Maya.

As soon as we arrived to Ikal I knew we were at a special place. The property is stunning and well maintained, making it the perfect place to relax. Even though it is family friendly, we never felt stressed by the cute kids running around, just added to the charm. Kar, one of our servers, was very welcoming and charming to chat with, she really matched the vibe of the place! Overall great birthday getaway!

A really beautiful hotel and amazing stay. Everything was super clean and picturesque, the complimentary yoga every morning was amazing, it couldn’t have been a better stay. The sunbeds didn’t have a minimum spend because it’s low season which was good and the jaguar park fee was only 120 each- it sounds like this changes a lot and we had expected to pay about 400 each. The only downside was the restaurant, the food and drinks were good but were very very overpriced, it’s easy to walk to other restaurants on the beach that have more reasonable prices.

We were truly amazed by this beautiful and serene oasis in the heart of the jungle. Kar, the hostess at Maya Restaurant, was exceptional, highly professional, warm, and attentive to every detail. She went above and beyond to accommodate us and made our stay a genuinely unforgettable experience. The cuisine was delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavor, while the activities offered were equally outstanding. I would highly recommend this destination for both families and couples seeking relaxation, nature, and excellent service

Very special place, can’t wait to go back! This was our third time staying at the hotel and the best visit so far - seems like management has made many changes for the better. Many thanks to receptionist Eliana for going above and beyond to make our stay perfect. Throughout your stay reception stays in touch via WhatsApp which makes it easy if you need anything or have questions. We appreciated the complementary mosquito spray and aloe vera. You are in a jungle, so do note there are a ton of mosquitos outside, lizards, bugs, birds and beautiful wildlife. They had lots of activities - yoga, ice baths, cacao ceremonies, astrology readings, mezcal tastings. Loved just lounging on the swinging beds, walking barefoot in the powdery white sands. You can take the electric shuttle easily to the ruins or other spots on the beach. The restaurant has amazing food - we loved the golden milk latte and fish tacos. It is pricy for Mexico, but that’s expected due to the location and the luxury. The server Franky did a great job, didn’t have any issues with him asking for additional tips - honest, fast. We did miss the whole fresh Seabass that we ordered on previous stays as well as Matcha Mama which was closed - they have great smoothie bowls. My only feedback would be - please consider making the hotel’s main entry steps (next to reception) more accessible for those with limited mobility - the irregular, rickety, floating planks are difficult to navigate. Some boards were even loose and wiggling - dangerous for anybody. And please bring back the live music in the restaurant - there were musicians in the evenings during our previous days and we missed that on this trip. The music was so good. Note that you must pay entry to the park - about $40 USD for our entry via car for 4 nights, then about $5 USD per person every day you enter the park via car before 5pm (after is free). It’s a special place, and I imagine the fee goes towards conserving the nature and beauty of the park.

Stayed here for 6 days to celebrate a birthday. The place is gorgeous, outdoor bathroom including toilet, be prepared and bring mosquito spray. Food is on the bland side but there are plenty of options in walking distance. Amenities and beach access make the stay worthwhile. Because the hotel is located within the national park there is a fee to get back into the park that needs to be paid every day if coming back prior to 5pm.

I went for a yoga class to IKAL (I wasn’t staying at the hotel) and I was absolutely blown away by the beautiful beach front view! The yoga stage was facing the beach and the sound of waves made the whole experience very special and profound. The class was absolutely amazing - the yoga teacher spoke Spanish and English and was very attentive and experienced. The atmosphere was great and very relaxing. After the class I had a tasty lunch at the hotel’s beach bar&restaurant. The stuff was very polite and friendly and I love the fact that the hotel is located just on the beach front so I could take a deep in the sea straight after the class. There are toilets available for guests with mirrors and sink. Surrounding nature and presence of iguanas plus lovely park with art on the walk to the hotel only added to beautiful overall aesthetics.

My husband and I spent a long weekend at Ikal. It was an amazing experience. Beautiful, calm, healing. The staff was great and the food was too. There are many activities that are included with your stay. The list of cons was longer than most places we stay, but none detracted from our vacation. There are multiple types of each room, so the pictures I looked at while booking did not match our reservation. It was still wonderful, but not what I was expecting. That was my fault for not looking more closely, but be aware if you are booking a specific room based off pictures. The privacy wall panel was lower than it should have been. There wasn’t much foot traffic in that area so it was fine, but the area that should have been completely private was very much on display. That was definitely the biggest complaint for me. Photo shows the view of our room from the public path. It is in the jungle, so expect wildlife. Nights were noisy with raccoons on the roof and we found a very large cockroach in bed and a scorpion in our clothes. We expected and were unbothered by this, but if nature isn’t your thing this might not be the best place. Lastly, the shower was cold even after letting it run to heat up, so we never were able to use it. Despite what seems like a long list of problems, our experience was absolutely magical and I would return in a heartbeat.
